Reading Khmer words
Okay, this is the fun part and what we have been trying to acheive all along. ![]() ![]() TDOR + sat AH = TDAH but remeber the rules, when a consonant has an "-or" sound 'sat AH' changes to 'sat EER' to give it a softer sound. thus the correct way to sound out this word is TDOR + sat EER = TDEE ![]() ![]() Notice I ignore the backward 'J', it would not make any different the word is going to sound the same way. For the sake of spelling you would have to know. Whenever you see extra character like that try reading without it. It is usually some sorta symbol to make a spelling, so it wont be comfused with other words. You'll see what I mean when you read more and more. ![]() ![]() Notice I have two spelling for BARAY. The left one, would be okay if you can distingish it from the consonant "HAR" ![]() When you write though, you may want to clearify that it's a "BAR". So we have a special letter for "BAR" and the vowel "sat AH". ![]() ![]() ![]() ROR + TDAR= RTD yeah it still sound the same and you can make out the word. But did you notice the short line above TDAR? Whenever you see that short line above a consonant, it means you need to add a short 'u' sound before the consonant. Short 'U' sound as in UGLY. So the correct way is ... ROR + U + TDAR= RUTD ![]() ![]() ROR + sat AH + BAR= RAB REMEMBER "ROR" is an '-or' consonant. So follow the softer sound rule: ROR + sat EER + BAR= REEB yeah it would still sound the same and you can make out the word. But did you notice the short line above BAR? Whenever you see that short line above a consonant, it means you need to add a short 'u' sound before the consonant. Short 'U' sound as in UGLY. So the correct way is ...
